I once told Tony Bennett to hold it down. I was in a meeting in a Washington hotel conference room. One of those rooms that emerge from folding walls that partition the larger ballroom. Ours was next to a curtained stage set, and someone behind the curtain was making an awful racket of scales and segments of songs. So I walked behind the curtain and told the singer to hold it down, we were trying to meet. He was very gracious and most apologetic. Nice guy. Had no idea it was Tony Bennett who would be performing later that night.
